Article Correction, Retraction, and Removal Policy

The Journal of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Computing (J. Appl. Math. Stat. Comput.) is committed to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity and accuracy in its publications. This policy outlines the procedures for correcting, retracting, or removing articles published in J. Appl. Math. Stat. Comput. to ensure transparency, accountability, and trust in the scholarly record.

1. Corrections

Corrections are issued to address errors in published articles that do not fundamentally undermine the research’s validity but require clarification or amendment to maintain accuracy.

Types of Corrections:
Errata: Used for minor errors such as typographical mistakes, formatting issues, or incorrect author details (e.g., names, affiliations) that do not affect the scientific content or conclusions.
Corrigenda: Used for significant errors introduced by the author(s) or publisher that may affect the interpretation of the research but do not invalidate the overall findings (e.g., errors in data presentation, methodology descriptions, or figures).

Process:
Authors, readers, or editors may identify errors and notify the editorial office at editor@jamsc.aastemer.org.
The editorial team will review the reported error in consultation with the author(s) and, if necessary, independent experts.
Approved corrections will be published as a separate notice linked to the original article, clearly describing the error and the correction made.
The original article will be updated with a note indicating the correction, and the corrected version will be clearly marked with the date of revision.

Transparency: All corrections are published promptly and made freely accessible to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

2. Retractions

Retractions are issued when significant issues in an article compromise its validity, reliability, or integrity, rendering the findings or conclusions untrustworthy.

Grounds for Retraction:
Evidence of scientific misconduct, such as data fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism.
Significant errors or inaccuracies that invalidate the article’s findings or conclusions.
Redundant publication (e.g., duplicate publication without proper disclosure).
Failure to disclose conflicts of interest that materially affect the research.
Other ethical violations that undermine the article’s credibility.

Process:
Concerns about an article may be raised by authors, readers, or editors and should be reported to the editorial office at editor@jamsc.aastemer.org.
The editorial team will conduct a thorough investigation, involving the author(s), and may consult independent experts or institutional bodies as needed.
If a retraction is warranted, a retraction notice will be published, clearly stating the reasons for retraction and linked to the original article.
The retracted article will remain accessible online but will be watermarked or clearly marked as “Retracted” to prevent further use or citation without context.
Retraction notices will be published promptly and made freely accessible.

Author Involvement: Authors are encouraged to initiate retractions if they identify issues in their work. However, the editorial team reserves the right to retract an article unilaterally if authors are unresponsive or uncooperative.

3. Article Removal

Article removal is an exceptional action taken in rare circumstances where keeping an article publicly accessible could cause harm or violate legal or ethical standards.

Grounds for Removal:
Legal issues, such as copyright infringement or defamation, that cannot be resolved through correction or retraction.
Serious ethical violations that pose risks to public safety or privacy (e.g., inclusion of sensitive personal data without consent).
Court orders or legal mandates requiring removal.

Process:
Removal requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the editorial board in consultation with legal advisors, if necessary.
If removal is deemed necessary, the article will be removed from the journal’s online platform, and a notice explaining the reason for removal will be published in its place.
Metadata (e.g., title, authors, and DOI) may remain accessible to preserve the scholarly record, accompanied by the removal notice.

Transparency: Removal notices will clearly state the reason for removal, unless prohibited by legal constraints, and will be freely accessible.

4. General Principles

Timeliness: J. Appl. Math. Stat. Comput. is committed to addressing concerns promptly. Corrections, retractions, or removals will be processed as quickly as possible to minimize misinformation.
Fairness: All decisions regarding corrections, retractions, or removals will be made impartially, following a thorough and transparent investigation.
Preservation of the Scholarly Record: Whenever possible, J. Appl. Math. Stat. Comput. prioritizes maintaining access to the original article (with appropriate notices) over complete removal to support transparency and accountability.
Appeals: Authors may appeal correction, retraction, or removal decisions by submitting a written request to the editorial office at editor@jamsc.aastemer.org. Appeals will be reviewed by an independent panel appointed by the editorial board.
Compliance with Standards: This policy adheres to guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and other recognized standards for scholarly publishing.
